A Highly Commendable Night Out!

UPLIFT ended the year in celebratory style at the Positive Practice in Mental Health Awards!

Any excuse for a posh frock - the team put their glad rags on and hot stepped it to Sheffield, where alongside some fabulous organisations we were Highly Commended in the 'Most Innovative Service' category. We were very proud to be nominated against some real forces in mental health services and this is a reflection of the hard work from all of our team and participants. Big thanks and well done to everyone!

The UPLIFT Army's Merseyside Mission!

What a busy old year the UPLIFT team have had, the last few months of 2013 were jam packed and in true UPLIFT fashion 2014 is off to a flying start! Now that we've had a chance to catch our breath we thought we'd treat you to some glorious pictures of the UPLIFT Army in action!

 

Meet the troops!

In November of last year UPLIFT were asked to speak at the National Museums Conference in Liverpool, never one to cease an opportunity the fantastic UPLIFT Army donned their vintage attire and jumped on board to spread the joy!

Marching through the conference centre, performing their rousing army chant, they certainly made an impact! Complete with their devised drill they presented the audience with their uplifting 5 WAYS TO WELLBEING message: CONNECT, BE ACTIVE, BE CURIOUS, KEEP LEARNING & GIVE.

The troop went down a storm and we'd like to say a big THANK YOU for all their efforts and hard work, a brilliant day was had by all and we're already looking forward to our next mission!

Operation - National Museum's Conference!

Here at UPLIFT HQ we have joined forces with Pif Paf Theatre to develop the UPLIFT Army, our theatre troupe, tasked to invade the National Museum's conference in Liverpool in November.

Our troops have been working hard using their new found energy, inspiration and talents and incorporating movement, song, puppetry and prop and costume making to devise a piece which presents the work that UPLIFT has been doing with our neighbouring Museums and to ultimately spread the joy.

With a helping hand from our friends at Pif Paf Theatre the Army have built up the necessary toolkit to prepare them for our upcoming occupations in the Autumn! Watch this Space and join the well-being revolution!

The UPLIFTers and Creative Recovery have been busy the last few months, with UPLIFT Camps, wind-swept seaside adventures, taking over Barnsley Hospital and much more. Watch out for more pictures and updates to come!

This Saturday we are at MADFEST, bringing our own brand of creative fun to UPLIFT folk and share the craze! We will be bringin favourites from events so far such as screen-printing and acts such as Stan Skinny for some light, jaw-aching sillyness. This is part of a special UPLIFT programme created to see us all through the Summer months until we are up and hitting the streets in the Autumn with our UPLIFT Occupations. Watch this space!

ONwords+UPwords! New Writing Group begins this week!

UPLIFT and Signposts present

ONwords + UPwords

A writing group for people who love words and want to start writing for UPLIFT starts this Wednesday the 15th of May at The Civic, Hanson Street from 1-3pm.

The sessions will run: May 15th, 22nd and June 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th and July the 3rd.

A Cup O' Spring?!

Swingin' at The Spring Fling!

This May Day we welcomed in the Spring in true UPLIFT style with a good ol' shindig over at Carlton Parish Hall. Bringing old-timers and a new local crowd together fresh from the streets, we danced the hours away with the live ragtime and blues outfit 'Leeds City Stompers', created beautiful paper and willow flowers, decked the hall and slurped tea from posh china cups.

RE:SOUNDING success!

" The best Alternative Night Out yet!"

Last Friday, we took over The Legacy Centre in Barnsley for The ALTERNATIVE Slam event! We had great music from Aztec Dolls, Hayley Smith, Re:Sound and many honest and brave open mic spots from new and old faces alike. Jade's cakes also went down a storm and raised a few pennies for Creative Recovery.  Keep an eye on the UPLIFT Calendar for our next "night out".
